Christina Biedermann, PsyD
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Christina Biedermann is a board certified, licensed clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has expertise in working intensively with complex patients and families for whom other treatments have been ineffective. Her patients often have complicated personal and family histories that have contributed to unsatisfying ways of living and working, and, sometimes, to the development of multiple psychiatric diagnoses, including complex trauma.
Dr. Biedermann is board certified in Assessment Psychology and has extensive experience working in schools, the juvenile justice and child welfare systems, outpatient settings, and hospitals. She provides psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families, as well as parenting education and psychological assessment for treatment planning, the assessment of therapeutic impasse and suicidality, and custody evaluations. In addition, she provides consultation services, including carefully vetted referrals, care coordination with multiple treatment providers, facilities, and disciplines, and psychoeducational services, to individuals and families who have complex mental health and substance abuse treatment needs. Through her work, Dr. Biedermann has found that insight into one’s characteristic patterns of managing stress and relationships, in addition to developing new skills in these domains, most often yields meaningful and sustained change.
Prior to joining the ARC Professional Group, Dr. Biedermann served as the Director of Psychological Testing at the Austen Riggs Center in Massachusetts, a nationally recognized residential psychiatric treatment center specializing in long-term care. Dr. Biedermann enjoys teaching and supervising psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and clinical writing. She served on the faculty of the Austen Riggs Center and the Yale-Riggs Infant and Family Mental Health Program, as well as lectured repeatedly at the Yale Child Study Center and New York Psychoanalytic Institute. She is currently Adjunct Faculty at the Doctor of Psychology program at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy and a mentor in the Fellowship Program at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Biedermann has presented nationally on working with complex patients and their families, as well as on issues related to psychological assessment. She also enjoys professional writing and has edited and reviewed publications in national journals.
Dr. Biedermann has advanced training in the assessment and treatment of complex psychological trauma, including at the esteemed Victims of Violence Program at Cambridge Hospital/Harvard Medical School and in the 4-year Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Austen Riggs Center.
